St. Anthony school band was formed in 1966. Since then, the band has continued to entertain the public in Teluk Intan. 5 years later, the Anthonian Military Band was formed. Back then, the band was known as St. John Ambulance Military Band Teluk Intan. Over time, St. John donated the equipment and instruments to the school. Thus, the Anthonian Military Band of S.M.K. St. Anthony was formed.

In the 70’s, the band performed in various avenues such as in Taiping, Kuala Kangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and many more. The band participated in various functions ranging from district-level functions to state-level functions such as National Day Parade and Youth Day. Year 1982 was a breakthrough for the band as the band was given the honour of representing Perak to the National Day Parade in Ipoh.

Besides that, the band has also performed in various school activities annually. These include the school Carnival Day, Sport’s Day, Teachers’ Day, Prize-Giving Day, and others. Every year, the band will organize its own anniversary party and farewell party.

The band has also frequently been invited to perform in many district-level and state-level functions such as the Teluk Intan Bethany Home Sport’s Day, St. John Annual Parade (South Perak), MSSPK-level competition such as football competition and rugby competition, United Plantation 100th Anniversary, declaration of municipality of Teluk Intan, national day parade, local cultural festivals, funeral functions, and many more.

One of the band’s greatest achievements was to have successfully organized its very own first concert-“St. Anthony & Friends in Concert”. The concert which was held at Anderson School Hall, Ipoh on 4th March 2001 was proofs the band’s quality and the members’ sacrificial spirit towards the band.

In 2003, the band made it very clear that their first concert was not just a flash in the pan. We managed to organize the second concert-“St. Anthony & Friends in Concert II” on 31st May 2003 at St. Anthony School Hall, Teluk Intan. That was a memorable event with the noble purpose of further improving the band both for the present and the future.

At present, the band has its weekly full-band practices every Saturday and sometimes even Sunday. Sectional practice will be organized a few times in a week. This is to make sure the band quality is kept in the best condition and is improving from time to time. On top of that, the band also organizes camp twice a year. Besides serving as an intensive camp, the camp also had another purpose of enhance the relationship among the members.

To sum it up, the band has rendered invaluable service to the school and community in Teluk Intan as well as throughout the whole of Perak. The members themselves benefit from acquiring music skills, leadership skills, discipline, team-work and other values. Being a self-reliant band, the band will organize its very own “St. Anthony & Friends in Concert III” early next year.

The Anthonian Military Band Teluk Intan has achieved numerous great achievements since it was formed 36 years ago. The following are some of the competitions the band has participated and its excellent achievement:
