Chong Hwa High School Band was formed in 15th December, 1983.Together with the Chong Hwa Old Boys Band and Chong Hwa Independent High School Band, we formed the Chong Hwa Brass Band.
Chong Hwa Brass Band was originally formed by The Late Mr. Tan Lok Hon in 1940s.
However by 1960s, the band activities were suspended due to lack of students participation. By the 1970s, the separation of Chong Hwa High School into two (Chong Hwa National Type High School and Chong Hwa Independent High School) had more or less put a stop on the band activities.
None the less, by the 1980s, Under the leadership of Mr. Tan Eng and few other old boys (such as Mr. Tan Teck Soon, Mr. Wong, etc are all voluntarily), the Chong Hwa Brass Band was once again reorganised under Chong Hwa Old Boys Association.

By 1981, Chong Hwa Independent High School Band was formed and in 1983 our Chong Hwa High School Band was formed.
Throughout the first 10 years of our history, we had participated in numerous performances and competitions.
We participated actively in all of our school's functions such as Teacher's Day, Speech Day, Sports Day and so on.
Among the places we had performed in were Stadium Negara, Stadium Merdeka, Thean Hou Temple, The Mall, Sungai Wang Plaza, Genting Highlands, Shangri-la Hotel, etc.
1990 was a year to remember as that was the first time Chong Hwa Brass Band participated in our National Day Parade.
In 1991 we took part in a marching competition organised by DBKL and JPWP and was awarded third place overall.
On the other hand, we was also invited to participate in the annual Flora Festival Parade which was organised by the Ministry of Tourism.
The most unforgettable vivid memories was the grand performance presented by our band during Chong Hwa's 70 anniversary, we had about 120 members (consisting of Old Boys, ourselves and Chong Hwa Independent School's members) performing live on stage conducted by The Late Mr. Tan Lok Hon and Mr. Tan Eng.
Unfortunately to us, in the early 1990s, Mr. Tan Eng pulled out from Chong Hwa Independent High School Band.
As a result Chong Hwa Brass Band was dissolved and we (Chong Hwa High School Band) are on our own under the guidance of Mr. Tan Eng.
By 1994, Miss Ho was hired to train the band because the old boys have to leave for studies and could not assist Mr. Tan Eng to train the new members.
However, Mr. Tan Eng is still being our major instructor, principle trainer as well as conductor.
In the year 1995, We have conducted our first Music Camp in school compound.
Whereas in year 1996, the first concert was held at Thean Hou Temple Hall and we have gained lots of supports and encouragement from the audiences.
The second concert was held in the following year at Thean Hou Temple Hall as well and improvement has shown from the previous experiences.
In the year 1998 and 1999, we have won the gold metal in the "2nd School Band Challenge" (year 1998) and "3rd School Band Challenge" (year 1999) competition organised by IOI Mall.
Throughout the 17 years of our existence, we were once the large band in Kuala Lumpur with over 100 band members.
Chong Hwa High School Band has produced not less than 500 band members and most of them are quite successful in their career or studies.
