"This type of event is very good for the city as it encourages students and members of the various associations in the country to start their own marching bands.
From what I see, involvement in marching bands becomes a lifelong passion," Fuad said
He said this would help reduce the chances of youngsters getting involved in social ills as well as provide the opportunity to develop musical talent.
"Events like this will also attract more tourists to Kuala Lumpur. I hope we can organise something big like this every month," he said, adding that there were many good local marching bands and it was an activity that encouraged discipline and teamwork.
Norzam said the annual event usually includes a street parade that most probably would go through Bukit Bintang.
The event is supported by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Tourism Ministry and sanctioned by the world governing body World Association of Marching Show Bands.
